Kamran Mirza, MD PhD

Kamran Mirza, MD PhD is an Associate Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Medical Education and Applied Health Sciences at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. He attended the Aga Khan University Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan followed by a PhD in Vascular Biology from UIC. He completed residency in anatomic and clinical pathology, hematopathology fellowship, and fellowship training in Medical Education Research, Innovation, Teaching and Scholarship (MERITS) at the University of Chicago.

Dr. Mirza is an expert in the diagnosis of hematopoietic disease. He is an award-winning educator and mentor having received the ASCP Mentorship Award and the ASCP H. P. Smith Award for Distinguished Pathology Educator, the CAP Resident Advocate Award and the CAP Pathology Advancement Award. Dr. Mirza is the inaugural winner of both the regional and national Brownie M. Anderson Award for New and Emerging Educators (AAMC). He was inducted as a faculty honoree in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.

Dr. Mirza’s research interests include the the molecular underpinnings of myeloid neoplasms, and novel pedagogical techniques in pathology education. He is the co-founder of www.pathelective.com, the PathPod podcast, the Digital Communications Fellowship in Pathology, the virtual pathology student interest group, ASCP’s Virtual Pathology Grand Rounds, and www.houseofheme.com. He is one of the most followed Hematopathologists on Twitter (@KMirza), and has been named in The Pathologist’s Power List 100 consecutively for the past 5 years.
